OneLight DVD Trailer Online!

The company I’m working with just got this uploaded today and I just had to share it!

There is some more info about the OneLight DVD after the jump. The next white seamless tutorial will be online tomorrow so check back in for part 5 of that!

The topics covered in the DVD…

1) Exposure Variables (Aperture, Shutter Speed, Flash Power, Flash to Subject Distance, and ISO)

2) Gear – Flashes (Hotshoe and Alien Bee), stands, triggers, modifiers, etc. How they all work together.

3) Shooting – Follow along with 4 individual shoots indoors and on location as well as shooting a 4 piece band. The band was added specifically by request of folks on the OneLight forum who wanted to see shooting more than one person with one light.

4) Workflow – Working the images in Lightroom.

5) An “interview” with me. This will be an Easter egg. You’ll have to find it rather than “sit through it”.

It is going to be a 2 disc DVD set that will NOT be broken up for individual sales. The whole thrust of this DVD is to bring someone up from the basics to getting started with gear to getting out and shooting. We are planning a secondary DVD for later in the year that will emphasize more complex shooting scenarios with even more modifiers, rigs, and multiple lights.

Street price is going to start somewhere around $250 as an introductory price for the first few weeks and then hit about $300. Don’t quote me just yet on price. All of the production isn’t wrapped just yet. This thing is like a government project. Taking a little longer than I want and costing more than I thought!

You’ll be getting the 2 discs (3 to 4 hours run time), a 16 to 20 page book with more info about the images shot for the DVD and other images with lighting diagrams. This will be a useful “pocket guide” to keep in your bag while shooting. There are also a number of things that are going to be packaged up with the DVD. It isn’t just going to be 2 DVDs in a case! It will be a packed full mailer that arrives at your house!

Projected release date will be July 1st.

The shooting is finished. It is now in the final stages of editing. We have to add the graphics in and finalize the soundtrack. I’m working on all of the artwork for the packaging and book as well as the added bonus stuff. Getting the e-commerce and fulfillment work done as well right now. Once the masters are done it will be 3 weeks from that date.

It will be a replication process to make the DVD’s instead of duplication. This is going to give the best quality. If this was going to be a one disc only production I would consider doing an online download but 2 discs of video is too much to do plus I can’t package all the other stuff in with a download.

There most likely will not be a “pre-sale”. Since I’m doing this replication instead of duplication, I’m going to have a lot of inventory due to the minimums required for replications. I don’t want to pre-sale anything and then there be a glitch in the process that makes people have to wait longer. When it is done and in my hands, it will be ready for ordering.

We’ve been working on this since January and I’m really excited about how it is coming out. We’ll have more trailers and clips as we get closer to launching it in July.

Let me know what you think of the trailer!

Cheers, Zack

PS – In the trailer – notice where we get kicked out of! Not the first time I’ve been kicked out of art school!

  • Raymond said on May 20, 2008

If I promise not to bootleg it can I buy one too? (I’m in Hong Kong — which is China though we hate to think of it that way)… :)

  • Raymond said on May 20, 2008

Oh yeah and the seamless articles were WONDERFUL! Thanks ever so for that. I am going around shooting toys on various coloured backgrounds that are actually all a white wall. Even in my dinkie little flat (I did say I’m in Hong Kong) — unfortunately over here I’d need to be a multi-millionaire to afford a 40′ x 20′ space to shoot in!

  • zack said on May 20, 2008

Raymond… I’ll make an exception for you! :)

    Cheers,
    Zack

  • Chad said on May 20, 2008

Just what I needed. A one-light refresher! Found your blog via the dvd trailer post. Incredible resource! I am so sad I wont be able to attend the Alaska onelight again. I’m trying to make up for it by attending very altF in ATL Aug1st. Hopefully you’ll have some AK highlights by then!

  • Seth Floyd said on May 21, 2008

    Hi,

DVD looks good. Really enjoying your site and the White Background series could just about be the best thing I’ve ever read on the web.

Is there a reason why it says Arhives instead of Archives on the left though?

“If you find yourself out shooting a client and you are saying in your head. “UHH… I’ll fix that later in photoshop…” stop what your are doing and slap yourself as hard as you can”-Zack Arias

    _ Glorious!!!

Great opener :-) , I have fall into this trap one or two many times. Being a graphic designer making my way to photography. Sometimes I tend to skim prod values and cram more time into post. But I’m learning though…The hard way.

    Cheers and success, great stuff

Cool DVD. Only thing I don’t like is the constant:

    dunt, dunt dunt.
    dunt, dunt, dunt.

music. Gets really monotonous after a while.
